OPAC tip

At the OWWLug meeting today we all learned something new that I thought would be nice to share with everyone else! It's fun to learn new things!!!
Did you know that when patrons place 'holds' in the OPAC it does make a difference when they log in?
Let me try and explain:
If your patron logs into the OPAC BEFORE they start to place their hold - the system will see the library card number and associate it with a member library.
If your patron doesn't log in first - then the system see the patron as a PLSHQ patron.
They can still place the hold it just determines where they are on the holds list.
This is only a problem if they are placing a hold on an item that their home library owns and if it's a popular item. In other words, they may not be first on the list for your library because the computer recognizes them as PLSHQ not their home library.

So - Help your patrons!!
Remind them to Log in FIRST before placing holds from their home computer.
