Title
Full-Time (FT) Senior Library Clerk/ Daytime Supervisor in Circulation Services (Provisional*)
Application deadline: September 17, 2010.

Salary Schedule
$30,085 to $39,112 in six steps based on performance and longevity

Eligibility
The FT Senior Library Clerk position is a competitive title. The qualifying candidate must either:

A. currently hold the Monroe County Civil Service Senior Library Clerk title and be eligible for a transfer; OR
B. be eligible for a reinstatement of the Monroe County Civil Service Senior Library Clerk title; OR
C. meet the requirements needed to provisionally* qualify for the Monroe County Civil Service Senior Library Clerk title

Major Duties
1. Reports directly to the Circulation Services Manager
2. Serves as Daytime Supervisor for circulation activities and staff, including 2 FT Aides, 3 PT Aides, 5 Substitute Aides, and 16 PT Pages
3. Charges material out for patrons and processes their returns and reserves
4. Collects fines and bills; operates cash register and credit card equipment
5. Issues and updates library cards
6. Provides information to the public re: library policies and procedures
7. Works with patrons to resolve circulation issues
8. Acts as final ‘go to’ person for patron circulation issues
9. Sends “billed for replacement” letters to patrons of items returned damaged
10. Assigns and reviews work of subordinate staff
11. Settles issues with collection agency; releases patrons to collection agency
12. Creates and maintains weekly Circulation schedule for desk staff
13. Assists desk staff in finding time-off coverage; signs time-off forms
14. Checks and signs off on the PT Clerk and PT Aide time cards
15. Calls in Aides/Pages to cover shifts
16. Conducts weekly Circulation meetings
17. Attends quarterly MCLS Circulation Services Roundtable meetings
18. Other duties as assigned

7. Familiarity with computers
8. Ability to bend to floor and reach overhead with books in hand for shelving
9. Ability to assist with lifting full book totes (60 lbs.) and push fully loaded book carts (75 lbs.)

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience working in public libraries
2. Familiarity with CARL circulation software
3. Scheduling flexibility
4. Previous supervisory experience

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalent diploma, plus EITHER:

A. One (1) year of paid full time or its part time/volunteer equivalent library clerical experience; OR,
B. Completion of two (2) years (60 semester credit hours) of college; OR,
C. Four (4) years of paid full time or its part time/volunteer equivalent general clerical experience; OR,
D. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.

Hours
36 hours per week, including the Tuesday evening shift
