Editorial: Not Yet Equal

This is a great article. The word Paraprofessional has been a term used for library support staff for many years. It's a term that can really upset Library Workers who feel that they are not a "para- professional" - They are just as much as professional as the MLS staff.
The 2010 Library Journal Paraprofessional of the year, Allison Sloan, made a case for using the term "Paralibrarian" to her colleagues.
I would love to know your thoughts after reading this article from Library Journal (on-line).

My official job title is "Library Assistant". After working in libraries for more than ten years--plenty of time to mull this issue over-- I've come to believe that almost all library employees should be called librarian. Instead of using diminuitive titles for those of us who aren't in charge, the people who manage libraries should ADD something to THEIR titles-- Library Director, Library Manager, Head Librarian, Lead-Librarian, Faculty-Librarian, etc. Everybody else is a librarian.
