Michael Borges, Executive Director of NYLA, has a letter published in today's NY Times highlighting the importance of libraries and the lack of funding from the Governor and Legislators. Although the State budget has passed, and although legislators restored some of the cuts proposed by the Governor (the final budget is 8% less than the 08-09 budget), library funding still suffered a drastic cut at a time when libraries are being used as part of the "safety net".
